The State of My Self
The Change in place has always brought about an uncomfortable change in the state of my mind and body. Having shifted from place to place for the past 4-5 years it has been hard for me to find my comfort in any given place. The project was inspired by the works of photographers like Vivian Maier and Lee Friedlander. Analyzing Vivian Maier’s work completely changed my perspective on self-portraits. In the project, “The State of My Self”, I have used Self-portraits as a mean to reflect on myself and to situate myself within the environment/surroundings which would mainly include my college, accommodation, and the streets, shops that I have become used to since I came here. The photographs reflect on the mood in which they have been taken and portray the moments of confusion, or clarity that I have felt. To me, photography is not only a creative practice but also a medium of expressing myself. Photographs can evoke a lot of emotions in the viewers. The photographs reflect on my technique and the process of clicking a picture, as well as on my state of mind.
